[Katekyo Hitman Reborn!] Ten and Ten and Ten
fandom Katekyo Hitman Reborn!
characters Lambo, Reborn
When Lambo was five years old, he liked cream-filled strawberry candy that stained his mouth and hands with red. He took afternoon naps on Tsuna’s bed after playing with I-Pin all morning, and he woke up with a kick to the head from Gokudera, who always followed Tsuna home from school. He tried to kill Reborn every once in a while, and he regularly shot himself in the face with a bazooka. All in all, he had a happy childhood, overshadowed as it was by violence and organised crime.

When Lambo was fifteen, he grew into his hair and his lanky limbs. He went to Namimori Junior High School, and everybody was afraid of him because he knew Hibari Kyouya. He found this a little bit ironic -- his classmates never even noticed the gun strapped to the inside of his left ankle. He didn’t try to kill Reborn anymore, and in fact he tried to avoid him whenever possible. They lived in the same underground base, though, and they often met in Tsuna’s office, so usually the most he could do was to avoid Reborn’s dark, knowing eyes. His hands were still stained with red, but not from candy.

When Lambo was twenty-five, he was formally adopted into the Vongola family. The only difference this made to him was that he no longer had to pretend that his first loyalty lay with the Bovino, as he had been for the past ten years. Tsuna held a big party for him, and when Tsuna held a party, everybody came. He saw Reborn for the first time in two years and five months, and the man looked the same as he always had -- tall and lean, his eyes sharp and his smile cruel. When that smile was directed at him, those dark eyes sweeping over him from head to toe, he didn’t resist; he followed Reborn out of the ballroom, up the curved staircase, and into the nearest empty bedroom.

When Lambo was thirty-five, he was sent out to capture a traitor who had stolen information from the family. Maybe it was the rain, or maybe it was simply bad luck, but by the time he noticed the target out of the corner of his eye, Reborn had been shot twice in the back. He was heavy in Lambo’s arms, and electricity shot through the air, tearing easily through the target’s chest and leaving nothing behind. Reborn’s eyes were closed, and for a moment he let himself believe that they would open again and look at him as they always did -- as if Lambo was a joke and Reborn was the only one who knew the punchline. He didn’t know how long he sat there in the rain; as always, his hands were stained with red.

A/N: Written at work during my lunch break; CLEARLY I have been reading too much Reborn/Lambo doujinshi.
